About My Clients
Life is hard! I'm here to help, whether it's behavioral issues with a teen, a child with anxiety, helping a child adjust to major life changes, or helping you cope with life's challenges. I am also a Certified Trauma Professional who can help you or your child better understand and process the trauma that negatively impacts your life. I work best with clients who show up prepared to learn and grow together. Parents should expect to be an active participant in therapy!
My Background and Approach
I started my career as a special education teacher, but made the switch to the mental health field in 2012, after 2 of my own children were diagnosed with mental health disorders. I worked for 6 years in community mental health, focusing on children and families in crisis. I then worked for 1.5 years as a trauma therapist for children in foster care and their caregivers. In 2019, I graduated from the University of Illinois with a Master's in Social Work and accepted a position as a child welfare supervisor, working to keep children and families together. As the pandemic seemed to be winding down, I received the opportunity to pursue my dream of joining a private practice group and addressing the mental health needs of children and families without unnecessary limitations. I believe that every person should have access to quality mental health services, regardless of socioeconomic status, race, religion, sexuality/identity, or disability.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all people have value and all people have a story to tell. I consider it an honor to hear your story and to help you see that change is possible. I believe that you can feel happier and healthier and live the life you desire. I believe that parents do the best they can, but sometimes they need a little help. Asking for help can feel so scary, but I promise to make the process as safe and easy as I possibly can. I believe that everyone, regardless of age, race, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, or socioeconomic status, deserves access to quality mental health services and I understand that personal or cultural experiences may make it difficult to seek or accept mental health services. Open communication about any concerns you might have about therapy will help me to provide you with the best care possible.
