Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic, scary or dangerous event. PTSD can be caused by either witnessing or experiencing the trauma. Events that sometimes trigger PTSD include everything from sexual assault, war, and violence, to car accidents or other incidents that could cause loss of life. It is not at all uncommon for people who go through something traumatic to have temporary difficulty coping and acute symptoms, but with time, they usually get better. However, if the symptoms last longer than a month, get worse rather than better and affect your ability to function, you may be suffering from PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD may include severe anxiety, anger, nightmares, trouble sleeping, flashbacks to the event, frightening thoughts, avoidance of situations or places, feeling on edge and/or being easily startled. If you think you may be experiencing PTSD, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s specialists today to get help.

At Newport Academy, we address the root causes of self-destructive behaviors, not just the symptoms. We guide teens and their families to achieve long-term, sustainable healing by treating the underlying issues—such as trauma, depression, and anxiety—that catalyze substance abuse, eating disorders, and other co-occurring disorders. Incorporating clinical, experiential, and holistic modalities, our gender-specific treatment is family-focused and results-oriented.

I work with individuals whose brains never clock out and whose hearts carry more than they let on. If you find yourself lying awake at night replaying every interaction you’ve ever had (including that awkward thing you said in 2016)—or feeling everything all at once like it’s your full-time job—you’re not alone. Therapy can help you slow down, sort things out, and finally exhale.
I’ve had the privilege of connecting with children, teens, adults, couples, and families of various socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Together, we’ve navigated challenges related to relationship stress, life transitions, self-worth, trauma, and identity, reflected through a variety of symptoms and difficulties.

I have worked with adults and families facing life transitions, depression, domestic violence, anxiety, relationship issues, and acculturation challenges. I also help children and teens navigate peer pressure, self-esteem, and transitions. I love witnessing clients’ “aha moments” when they recognize their strengths and resilience. Everyone is an expert in their own life, and being part of your journey is a privilege.
