Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) relies on a client's own rapid, rhythmic eye movements, and is founded on the belief that these eye movements can weaken the intensity of emotionally charged memories. EMDR is most often used to treat PTSD or other traumas, but is also sometimes used for panic attacks, eating disorders, addictions, and anxiety. EMDR sessions can last up to 90 minutes, and usually starts with a client rating their level of distress. A therapist then typically moves their fingers in front of your face (or sometimes toe tapping or musical tones), asking you to follow along with your eyes, while you recall a traumatic event and all the sensations that come with it. You will gradually be guided by the therapist to shift thoughts from the traumatic experience to a more comforting one. The goal of EMDR is to make disturbing memories less immobilizing. Think this approach might be right for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s EMDR specialists today.
I am an openly queer licensed clinical mental health counselor (LCMHC). I believe that having a space to explore one's identity is essential to mental well-being. I primarily work with adults around sexuality or gender identity, anxiety, depression, OCD, neurodiversity (ADHD, ASD), trauma, and relationship concerns. I work with monogamous, ENM, and poly couples.

Whether due to a significant life change, past abuses, or the slow onslaught of boredom and burnout, most of my clients feel life is just not as good as it should be. Anxiety and depression are common, avoidance and procrastination persist despite best efforts, and folks just don't feel themselves. You may be in a toxic job, a bad relationship, or just feel overwhelmed. I can help you clarify feelings, resolve the hurt, and start building effective strategies towards a better life.

Have you tried talk therapy but didn’t see the changes you were hoping for? Do you have good insight into your problems but don’t know how to actually change them? Are you looking to heal from trauma more effectively and holistically? If so, it might be time to try a somatic approach. Somatic psychotherapy helps us find, understand and resolve the root causes of our issues in ways that are often inaccessible through traditional talk therapy.

I work with adults who want to overcome or cope with difficult emotions, restore hope and confidence, repair or build relationships, create healthier patterns, or establish and maintain recovery. Are you seeking relief, insight, courage? Safe support? Skills for change? To slow down, shift priorities, speak up, or step out? Some come with ideas about what they want or need. Others don't. Some are just hurting, overwhelmed, at wits end, and don't know what to do next. Therapy works for both.

I enjoy working with clients of all ages who hold multiple minority identities and are seeking identity development, trauma therapy, or parent training. Many of my clients have jokingly described me as a "process consultant" and "professional poker". I can treat a range of mental health concerns but highly enjoy serving the local LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent community. I have experience writing letters in support of gender-affirming medical interventions (e.g., hormone treatment and surgery).
