Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is an evidence-based psychotherapy, first developed in the 1980s by Marsha M. Linehan, to treat patients suffering from borderline personality disorder. Since then, DBT’s use has broadened and now it is regularly employed as part of a treatment plan for people struggling with behaviors or emotions they can't control. This can include eating disorders, substance abuse, self-harm, and more. DBT is a skills-based approach that focuses on helping people increase their emotional and cognitive control by learning the triggers that lead to unwanted behaviors. Once triggers are identified, DBT teaches coping skills that include mindfulness, emotion regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness. A therapist specializing in DBT will help you to enhance your own capabilities, improve your motivation, provide support in-the-moment, and better manage your own life with problem-solving strategies. Think this approach might work for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s DBT specialists today.

Hi I’m Elsa (she/they), a NYC clinical psychologist specializing in life transitions, identity, and spirituality (meaning, purpose, and connection). I’m also passionate about serving communities that have historically experienced barriers to whole-person care including LGBTQ+, BIPOC, Asian American, and neurodivergent (gifted, 2e, autistic, highly sensitive) teens, adults, partners, and families of all kinds. Services I provide include therapy, assessment, consultation and training.

My practice is influenced by my trauma-informed training, where safety and trust are established within our first session together. Previously working in an acute psychiatric hospital, I have had the privilege to advocate for, and support, diverse populations. Working with me, you can better understand yourself in relation to your lived experiences, your environments, and your interpersonal relationships to foster a more meaningful life.
I have been working with children, adults, couples and families facing issues such as cultural identities, grief, trauma, family relationships, disabilities, chronic illness, bipolar, BPD and more. I aim to empower immigrants, Asian and queer communities, as well as clients with sex-related concerns, non-monogamy, and kink/BDSM.
I have a wide range of experience working with clients of various ages and backgrounds. I specialize working with LGBTQ+ clients, neurodivergent clients and immigrants/children of immigrants, and have extensive experience working with ADHD, autism, social anxiety, depression, OCD, and family trauma or racial trauma. Through a multicultural, humanistic approach, I aim to empower and advocate for my clients so that they can empower and advocate for themselves.
Through 21 years in the military, I developed a comprehensive understanding of diverse experiences and trauma. I specialize in medication management, recognizing the crucial role psychotropics play in enhancing therapeutic outcomes. I am committed to a collaborative approach that effectively leverages medication management, supporting evidence-based psychotherapy and ensuring that treatment is both effective and tailored to each client's unique needs.
I work with those facing struggles and seeking patient, compassionate support. Whether navigating challenges, life transitions, or uncertainty, I provide a safe space to explore and grow. I specialize in working with adolescents, as well as individuals, families, and couples, fostering connection, understanding, and growth. Together, we’ll address what’s weighing you down and find a path forward with clarity and hope.

I don’t believe in having one “ideal” client—I’m early in my career and value working with people from all backgrounds. My focus is on understanding your unique needs and creating a space that feels right for you. I work well with young adults navigating anxiety, depression, and attachment issues, especially those in the 18–40 range, with a focus on ages 25–35. My goal is to adapt to your needs and help you find the support and tools that work best for you.
