About My Clients
I can help you overcome the destructive cycles you’re desperate to change in your relationship. I specialize in getting couples “unstuck” from the underlying issues that often fuel unhappiness and disconnection. I work from a multicultural framework and am especially attuned to all the identities that make you who you are.
My Background and Approach
As your therapist, I am committed to coming to our work together as my full self, pulling not just from my expertise, training, and research, but also from my heart. My life experiences have exposed me to extraordinary highs and earth shattering lows – The breadth of that emotional journey allows me to connect with you with genuine empathy and compassion. I earned my PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Denver where my researched focused on the alleviation of relationship and family distress in underrepresented populations, with a specific emphasis on African American couples and family systems. I have worked in academia, group practice, and now in a small private practice. Through my experiences working with a range of marginalized populations, I have learned to flexibly apply evidenced-based couple’s interventions and relationship education in a culturally sensitive way.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
The core mission of my work is to create spaces where all people, but especially Black people can love freely. By freely I mean without constraints, barriers, or defenses because I believe love, like food, air and water is a basic human right. I have done this work for 10+ years as a teacher, researcher, and now as a full time clinician specializing in couples therapy. I primarily work with marginalized relationships including POC, LGBTQIA, and poly/ENM communities. If your values and beliefs align with mine, I'd love to work together on your journey back to love.
