About My Clients
Hello. My name is Aliyah, and I am looking to work with clients who would like to empower themselves through honoring their culture, gender expression, and neurodiversity. As a person of color with a beautifully diverse brain, I understand the difficulties that many humans face in accepting the reality around them and finding their place. I would love to walk that journey alongside you until you feel ready to do it on your own again. Thank you for reading, and I look forward to connecting.
My Background and Approach
I am passionate about this fields development in the same way that I am passionate about the individual development of my clients. I have studied several family systems theories in depth and feel most connected to psychodynamic (think the unconscious and relating current fears to childhood), experiential (think trusting in the power of the moment and connection between two humans), as well as collaborative language theory (honoring the clients autonomy and collaborating to create a safer reality for the self). I also utilize attachment theory and trauma informed care to relate to my clients and honor the difficulties that the human experience presents us with. I am trained in EMDR therapy as well and Art therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I grew up in Southern California, specifically Orange County, and have received a multicultural lens due to the level of diversity in this space as well as the diversity within my own DNA. I am a multicultural being who is neurodiverse (Autistic) and I believe that being open about my lived experience is helpful for my clients to be vulnerable and open throughout the therapeutic process as well as give relevant emotional development skills that can be more appropriate for them. My relationship with spirit also shows up in the therapy room as I believe in humanistic theory which posits that humans have a basic goodness and desire to connect with others innate within them. I come from this perspective as I explore my clients relationship with their own desires and perceived limitations.
