About My Clients
If You've been carrying burdens that feel unrecognizable to most people - You deserve safety and gentle witnessing. When You want change and going on with "life as normal" feels too much - it's not that You aren't strong enough. It's that none of us were meant to go through life's challenges alone. Disconnection is a common cause of dis-ease in individuals, families and communities, and I work with folks who are impacted by and questioning Your origins of distress.
My Background and Approach
Throughout my life and career, I have strived to meet people wherever they're at with compassionate presence and unconditional positive regard. I worked as a yoga teacher for 6 years offering group and private sessions through a trauma-informed lens. Social justice considerations (racial, gender, disability) led me to seek out a Masters Social Work degree, where I trained in DBT, Internal Family Systems (IFS) and offered LGBTQ+ therapeutic yoga as well as CEU classes for colleagues on Gender Affirming Care. I worked in rural NY as a community-based Functional Family Therapist with "at risk" youth and their families before entering private practice to provide individual, family and group therapy. Now, I enjoy co-creating a space with clients where choice, shared authentic experience and non-coercion are the foundation of healing. Together we can explore self-regulation techniques, co-regulating through anxiety/ stress/ dysregulation, and practice new ways of being through self-inquiry.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I consider myself an abolitionist therapist who views individual and family mental health issues as symptoms of larger societal and cultural illness and dis-ease. I lived for 5 years off-grid on Haudensaunee land, and trained as a regenerative gardener and land steward. This leads me to offer land-based perspectives and practices from my ancestorial Celtic lineage for those who are interested. As a white person, I continue to work towards decolonizing my mind and body by learning from People of the Global Majority. My intersecting identities as a Disabled, Queer, previously homeless person impact how I hold space as a facilitator.
