About My Clients
Many of my clients come in for therapy when they feel excluded or rejected by society. They wonder about the point of it all; what life is really about, and if it has to be this hard. They struggle with their relationships, have trouble understanding and expressing their emotions, and struggle to love themselves. They're ready to stop surviving and start thriving. Many of them struggle with symptoms of depression, anxiety, chronic stress, and the effects of trauma, and they're looking for hope.
My Background and Approach
Each and every one of my clients is a unique individual, so I've learned to match my style to yours. I draw from my education in mindfulness and other mind-body practices that can help you slow things down when you're overwhelmed and create space for you to do your best thinking and problem-solving. We'll learn how to really pinpoint what you believe and how you think, how these things are serving you, and how to see things from new perspectives that open up new possibilities. I consider you the expert on your life and won't try to force you in any particular direction. We will work to discover what's really getting in the way of you living your best life, free from overwhelming anxiety, stress, and the crushing weight of depression, and we'll match and adapt the tools we use to fit you as an individual. We'll explore how your relationships are functioning and help you learn and practice healthy communication skills to strengthen both you and your loved ones.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I really believe therapy is for everyone, and that anyone can change and grow. I love learning about the brain and am so encouraged when I read about the brain's ability to change, adapt, and overcome all kinds of challenges. No dog is too old to learn a new trick. I've learned through continuing education in evolutionary psychology that there are actual functions to mental health conditions. In other words, they serve a purpose. Depression and anxiety are telling you something about how your life is going. Rather than just trying to get the symptoms to go away, I believe that we can learn to listen in, and benefit from facing these things to get the most out of life. I run a support group for the lgbtq+ community in my area and I'm consistently amazed by the veracity of the human spirit. I believe that all of us can learn and grow from one another, and I've seen the power of community to contribute to human thriving. If you want to learn more about how I can help, reach out!
