About My Clients
My clients are often seeking therapy during times of transition: quarter-life, mid-life, & later life; or during times of cataclysmic change in their lives; or simply when they are wanting to get to know themselves better to make positive change and growth in their lives from a grounded and empowered perspective. Often my clients are choosing to seek help for the first time to confront issues with which they have long struggled; or they are returning to therapy for a new perspective.
My Background and Approach
When working with me in therapy, I almost always use mind-body work, but I may also use cognitive-behavioral, existential, positive psychology, emotionally focused therapy, & even coaching techniques when those might be appropriate. Setting goals is important to guide us through the process, and I believe that anyone has the capacity to change and grow. My specific areas of background and where I have deep knowledge and experience including working with those living with chronic illness; veterans and military families; people who identify as members of the LGBTQIA+ community; and concerns specific to women.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As an ethical and boundaried clinician, I know where my beliefs end and my clients' begin; I respect (and celebrate) difference. I have worked with people with myriad belief systems, cultural backgrounds, political beliefs, and family systems. My own beliefs and values all center around community & kindness -- simple concepts that apply to many, many situations. I believe essentially that we are all one human community; and that kindness (not just to others, but also to oneself, in the form of self-compassion) can heal many wounds. I believe that Black Lives Matter; families can be chosen, and come in many forms; people can live fulfilling lives as individuals both in and out of a relationship; and that one size never fits all.
