About My Clients
I mostly serve women and gender non-conforming folks who are dealing with the effects of trauma, e.g., sexual assault, intimate partner abuse, or childhood abuse/neglect. Many of my clients are members of marginalized groups who want support in dealing with the effects of systemic oppression in their lives, and want a therapist who understands intersectionality. I enjoy boundary work, and people often come to me for help dealing with a toxic work environment or an emotionally immature parent.
My Background and Approach
**Please note: As of Spring 2023 I am only accepting new clients for short-term half-day intensive sessions, which you can find out more about here: https://www.resolutionpsychotherapy.com/intensives. Unfortunately, these are not insurance-eligible.** I consider it my life's work to help people break out of self-destructive cycles and overcome self-limiting beliefs, often by challenging narratives that were installed in them by toxic familial or societal dynamics. I most often use Internal Family Systems therapy, EMDR, and mindfulness-based therapy methods, but it's important to me to tailor my approach to each unique individual's needs. I have a Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from SUNY New Paltz.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that: - We do *not* live in a society that treats everyone equitably and provides everyone the same opportunities. Our society devalues some people and protects others from accountability, and therapy must acknowledge and reflect this. - Religion, while it is super helpful for many people, also has the power to harm. While I always respect and support my clients' religious orientation, I personally am an atheist and believe firmly in the importance of the separation of church and state. I will fight for your freedom to practice your religion, and for my freedom not to. - Abortion should be a protected right for everyone. - Animal abuse should be treated like any other kind of abuse of a vulnerable population. For this reason, I let my clients know upfront that if they disclose that someone they know is abusing an animal, I will urge them to report it to the relevant animal welfare authorities (and if they don't feel safe doing it, I will do it for them).
