About My Clients
I work well with clients who are high achieving in their fields, but have difficulty speaking up to advocate for themselves or putting words to complex emotions. I help people explore how their past and early childhood relationships have affected their present anxieties, relationship challenges, and depression. I also offer practical skills that may shift your day-to-day. I have worked primarily with creative adults, LGBTQ+, gender diverse, and kink/poly/BDSM communities, and people of color.
My Background and Approach
I approach therapy as a way of listening to unconscious processes in experiences like exile, abjection, and shame in a safe and warm place. As a trained anthropologist, I see the therapeutic process as a deeply cultural process, where things may "come without saying as they go without saying," which may cause both tremendous suffering and unexpected healing in our relationship. I am certified in the gold standard for first-line treatment of insomnia (cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia or CBT-I) and trained for four years in psychoanalytic psychotherapy at the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis in Los Angeles and the Newport Psychoanalytic Institute.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I served as an activist, teacher, or advocate in multiple settings, including LGBTQ and queer justice projects, Asian and Asian American racial equity organizations, feminist nonprofit work in sexual and domestic violence awareness and case management, labor unions and labor nonprofits, and mental health advocacy at local and state-wide levels.
