About My Clients
I am passionate about helping people in the LGBTQ community, and as a member of the community myself, I understand the importance of having a therapist who can care for you with competence and respect, positivity toward sex and non-monogamy, and without judgment. Whether you are experiencing stress related to work, challenges in relationships, or struggling with any other area of life, you deserve support that is specific to you, from someone who cares about and prioritizes your needs.
My Background and Approach
I have been a practicing mental health clinician for ten years, and I am independently licensed in DC. I have extensive training and experience in trauma treatment, and a decade of experience in community-based mental health care focusing on the LGBTQ community and people living with HIV. My therapeutic approach starts with getting to know you and understanding your history, relationships, and life experiences so I can help you achieve your goals in a way that works for you. I gravitate toward types of therapy that center on exploring your relationship with parts of yourself, your values, and others in your life to help you move forward in a new way. I work with evidence-based practices and an eclectic mix of interventions tailored to meet your unique needs. I work extensively with relationship issues, trauma, anxiety, stress, and many other concerns. Whatever we choose to work on together, we will assess where you are now and make a plan to get to where you where you want to be.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My practice is informed by the belief that you are the expert in your own experience, and by working together you can make changes to improve your life. Everyone's journey is different, and everyone deserves a therapy experience that is as unique as they are. As a queer person I am especially interested in helping people in the LGBTQ+ community. I started my career as a social worker working with queer youth and youth living with HIV, and my commitment to my community is what motivates my work. I value racial justice, and continue to strive daily to work against white supremacy and toward anti-oppressive practice.
