Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that's triggered by a traumatic, scary or dangerous event. PTSD can be caused by either witnessing or experiencing the trauma. Events that sometimes trigger PTSD include everything from sexual assault, war, and violence, to car accidents or other incidents that could cause loss of life. It is not at all uncommon for people who go through something traumatic to have temporary difficulty coping and acute symptoms, but with time, they usually get better. However, if the symptoms last longer than a month, get worse rather than better and affect your ability to function, you may be suffering from PTSD. Symptoms of PTSD may include severe anxiety, anger, nightmares, trouble sleeping, flashbacks to the event, frightening thoughts, avoidance of situations or places, feeling on edge and/or being easily startled. If you think you may be experiencing PTSD, reach out to one of TherapyDen’s specialists today to get help.

I specialize in working with those who have experienced trauma, people dealing with issues relating to codependency, and people who have yet to have positive and meaningful experiences in therapy. My therapeutic style is compassionate and client-oriented. My strengths lie in finding the balance between being a compassionate listener while also being direct.

Are you very good at "holding it together" but never giving yourself space to just be? Have you learned to avoid challenging emotions as a way of coping with them, but not to actually process? Do you find yourself tossing and turning at night as all those thoughts you've been holding at bay come flooding in? We can work on that. Anxiety, insomnia, trauma -- all of these have effective treatments that can help you take the space you need to actually heal.

I understand that starting therapy with a total stranger takes a leap of faith. You hope that you will feel better but you can't help but worry that you wont. While I treat a variety of issues, a universal element of my work has to do with helping people see that their "problems" are not insurmountable, nor are they evidence that they are weak, stupid, or damaged. It may not come naturally to you to feel compassion for yourself but I hope that through me you will see that you deserve it.
