Harm reduction, or harm minimization, accepts that idea that many people can’t or won’t completely stop using drugs or alcohol. The term “harm reduction” refers to a framework for helping reduce the harmful consequences of use when abstinence is not a realistic option. Although harm reduction was originally and most frequently associated with substance use, it is increasingly being applied to a multitude of other behavioral disorders. A core tenet of harm reduction is a relaxation on the emphasis on abstinence as the only acceptable goal and criteria of success. Instead, smaller incremental changes in the direction of reduced harmfulness of drug use are encouraged and accepted. Think a therapist armed with harm reduction techniques might be right for you? The couples, partners, and individuals I work with have various presenting concerns and intersecting identities, but many of them are Latinx/Latina, polyamorous, kinky, neurodivergent, LGBTQIA+ and/or QTPOC. I am passionate about supporting folks who have experienced personal, systemic, sexual, and relational difficulties due to traumatic life events (including systemic oppression) with somatic modalities and techniques to help increase regulation, pleasure, intimacy, ease, and sexual wellness.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

Clients who seek me out tend to be interested in personal growth, improving their lives and relationships, and wanting to live their best life. While clients typically describe me with words that include warm, genuine, supportive and empathic, they have also let me know that what they appreciate a great deal is my ability to remember their story, retain important details about them, and my willingness to challenge them in their choices, reactions, and responsibility.

Sara’s ideal patients are those who may feel nervous about seeking therapy—individuals who often experience hopelessness and struggle with feelings of unworthiness. They may find it challenging to communicate their emotions and navigate estranged relationships. These patients seek validation and relatability, hoping to find a safe space where they can be vulnerable and understood. Sara is dedicated to helping them rediscover their voice, build self-worth, and foster meaningful connections.
