Interpersonal therapy, or IPT, is a short-term, focused treatment for mood disorders, such as depression. Rooted in attachment and communication theories, IPT is designed to help people address current concerns and improve interpersonal relationships. IPT is based on the principle that relationships and life events impact mood and that the reverse is also true. Treatment follows a highly structured and time-limited approach and seldom lasts longer than 16 weeks. The goal of IPT is to rapidly reduce symptoms. Think this approach might be right for you? I specialize in working with individuals with depression, anxiety, bipolar disorders, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, addiction, personality disorders, trauma/PTSD, sexual abuse, and DV. In my work and research, I have focused on the ways in which neurobiology and temperament combine with exposure to discrimination, microaggressions, violence, and other forms of societal and systemic oppression to affect mental health and wellbeing, especially as this pertains to LGBTQIAAP+ individuals.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

Clients who seek me out tend to be interested in personal growth, improving their lives and relationships, and wanting to live their best life. While clients typically describe me with words that include warm, genuine, supportive and empathic, they have also let me know that what they appreciate a great deal is my ability to remember their story, retain important details about them, and my willingness to challenge them in their choices, reactions, and responsibility.
