Family systems therapy is a therapeutic technique that thinks about the family as a single, emotional unit. Each action and family member affects the others. Family systems therapy focuses on families and couples in intimate relationships with a goal of nurturing change and development. It tends to view change in terms of the systems of interaction between family members. It emphasizes family relationships as an important factor in psychological health. A professional trained in this technique will work on understanding the relationships within a family, and create a family history that will be the foundation for how current behaviors are viewed. No individual can be understood in isolation from the others in the familial unit. Issues shared among family members, such as substance abuse, depression, eating disorders, anxiety, and schizophrenia are good candidates for a family systems approach. Think this approach might work for you? Reach out to one of TherapyDen’s family systems specialists today.

I work with clients experiencing anxiety, relationships challenges, stress, PTSD, transitions, spiritual abuse and trauma, and self esteem issues. I work with clients that have been diagnosed or suspect a diagnosis of neurodivergence, such as ADHD and/or autism. I strive to provide a safe space that supports, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+ and all people.

Being human is often tough. Sometimes we lose our way and can feel stuck and overwhelmed. Sometimes we would like to change parts of our lives or ourselves but don’t know how. Therapy can be an empowering way to promote healing, growth, and wellness. Often, we initially seek treatment to address a specific concern and then begin to uncover other areas of our lives in which we want to make meaningful change. My goal is for this process to feel supportive, affirming, and appropriately challenging.

I work with adults and adolescents (ages 12 and up) struggling with a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, trauma, and relational distress. I also work with members of the LGBTQIA+ population and poly/ENM/kinky folks around gender identity and expression, boundary-setting, and self-acceptance. I am available for both individual and couples counseling, in-person or via telehealth anywhere in the state of Indiana.
