Attachment theory, first developed by John Bowlby, is a psychology concept focused on the importance of attachment in relation to personal development. According to Bowlby’s theory, attachment is not a one-time event, but an ongoing process that begins at birth and continues through the first years of life. Fundamental to attachment theory is the belief that a child's relationship with the primary caregiver (usually the mother), affects their attachment style for the rest of their life. Unresolved or insecure attachment issues experienced in early childhood can have a negative impact on relationships into adulthood. A therapist who specializes in attachment theory can help. Maybe you have been living with depression and anxiety or feeling outcasted in life for as long as you can remember. Perhaps you're an adult who was recently given or self-diagnosed as neurodivergent. You could be an individual or couple seeking out new ways to build and maintain healthy intimacy or looking to explore your varying personal and sexual identities. No matter what brings you to therapy, I firmly believe that human connection is at the center of each of our lived experiences.

Are you an immigrant or a first-generation American navigating the intricate intersection of culture, religion, and identity? I am a first generation Muslim American. Albanian is my first language, and I am happy to work with clients in Albanian. English is my second language. I have tackled my own issues around identity with religion and the western world, and continue to do so as I navigate my own intersectionality.
