About My Clients
I am most passionate about working with clients on interpersonal relationships, self-image/esteem, sexuality, gender, work stress, life goals, burnout, life transitions, spirituality, and harm caused by systemic oppression/marginalization. Unfortunately, I'm not trained in treating substance use, disordered eating, OCD, or psychosis. I have a chronic illness, so I work best with clients who can be flexible with their availability as I sometimes need to reschedule for health reasons.
My Background and Approach
My approach combines aspects of psychodynamic therapy, ACT, IFS, mindfulness, attachment theory, harm reduction, EMDR, and trauma-informed counseling that’s tailored to each client's needs and preferences. While formal diagnoses can sometimes be helpful to both the client and therapist, I’m more interested in how you understand and experience your concerns and circumstances. Therapy is highly personalized and looks different for everyone, so we will figure out together what approach and style helps you get to where you want to be. My goal is to create a space where you feel safe, heard, and respected without judgement or pressure. ~~ I can provide a superbill for clients who have Out of Network benefits ~~
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Since the year 2000, I have been involved in various collectives and projects focused on mutual aid, dual power, anti-racism, abolition, sexual health, worker power/liberation, and radical models of health care delivery. I am a chronically ill, queer, cisgender, Puerto Rican/Boricua (Latine) woman in my 40s. I actively work on learning more about disability justice and fat liberation, and how to directly support and increasingly incorporate both movements in my work. I do not consider myself an expert in any identity or experience other than my own, and I continuously aim to learn and grow in all areas. Too often, clients who are anti-fascist/anti-capitalist, highly Covid-conscious, non-monogamous/polyamorous, or kinky have therapists that misunderstand them at best or pathologize their values and practices at worst. I aim to counterbalance that and fairly serve folks who seek support through, and healing from, the pain of living in a judgmental, oppressive, and violent world.
