Have you ever described yourself as having an “addictive personality”? Have you ever asked yourself, “Why me?” Have you felt like you have lost your meaning and purpose? To quote Gabor Mate, I will ask you not why the addiction, but rather why the pain. I serve a diverse community of individuals from various classes and walks of life who struggle with substance use disorder. It is what we hold inside that tends to bring us down. You are not alone and you are more than your struggles!
My Background and Approach
I have experience working in both inpatient and outpatient settings. I work one on one with clients and facilitate group sessions. It is not easy to find substance abuse resources that are inclusive of the LGBTQIA population, let alone finding competent providers. I will work alongside you to provide an affirming experience according to your identified treatment and recovery goals with empathy and compassion. Addiction is rooted in pain and it is consuming of the soul. But, Our minds are powerful and resilient. I believe we all have the capacity to evolve and change to become the best version of ourselves. I demonstrate a person centered and trauma informed approach. As far as treatment modalities and evidence based practices, I integrate Motivational Interviewing, Narrative Therapy, Harm Reduction and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) while taking into account the minority-stress model.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As an open trans-man, I have struggled finding competent clinicians to work with. I also understand the struggle of navigating life while living with gender dysphoria. I am active in advocating for transgender equality & rights and helping individuals navigate the systems that have historically oppressed our community. Additionally, I have personal experience with mental health which drives my passion to learn and familiarize myself with new trends and treatment practices. Some more of my interests include music, TV shows and being apart of fandom’s. My genre of choice is metalcore and some of my favorite shows and movies are anything star wars, game of thrones, westworld, the walking dead, dexter and several others that I won’t bother listing. I am down to earth and pride myself on being easy to talk to. Many of my clients would tell you I have a way of making treatment enjoyable.
