About My Clients
Many people who come to me have experienced anxiety for most of their lives and struggle to pinpoint why. Often people feel like they had a good enough life and there is not obvious reason why they are struggling. But, they often find that once we dig in, there are patterns that illuminate the challenges they've been having and provide helpful insight into how to move forward in an empowered way. Helping people discover these insights is one of the most exciting parts of my job!
My Background and Approach
I take a tailored, strategic and collaborative approach, to make sure every person gets the best possible outcome from working with me. We’ll talk more about what that looks like for you in our initial sessions. Clients often describe me as warm, gentle and direct and I bring a depth of experience to our work. For many people, sessions feel like a conversation where we get curious together. I provide information about how we're wired as humans because information is empowering. Then, we take that knowledge and use it to figure out practical ways to move forward. For those who struggle to express feelings with words, we can explore alternative avenues of exploration and expression. Some examples might be using music, colors, images or a niche interest. Some areas where I have particular depth of knowledge include LGBTQ+ identities, religious trauma, religious deconstruction, neurodiversity, grief and loss, pet loss.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am queer and neurodivergent affirming throughout all aspects of my life and work. I don't subscribe to the "blank slate" approach to therapy. Most of the people I work with have experienced discrimination, abuse and marginalization and I am not neutral on these issues. Most of my free time is spent dreaming up big ideas, connecting with nature, learning about history and entertaining my endlessly energetic cat. Once firmly in the "dog person" camp, I have recently been converted to the "cat person" camp.
