About My Clients
I invite clients to be a part of their own goal planning and actively engage in their journey. I hold my clients accountable and ask that my clients do the same for me - we are a team. Intakes can sometimes be awkward -for both of us. Consider your intake an opportunity to interview me to determine if I am a fit for you. I believe that the whole person is the only way to address any challenges. We do not exist in silos.
My Background and Approach
I use research from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT). Both modalities allow for a hybrid approach to identify challenging or unproductive ways of thinking and learn new ways to think that lead to healthier outcomes. We cannot control our feelings but we can learn to think differently about our feelings. I began developing my interest in serving the mental health and wellness community during my sophomore year of college when I was a Resident Advisor. Over the past ten years, I have worked in government, education and nonprofit as a teacher, social worker, therapist and case manager. I have also worked in retail, adult entertainment, and youth summer camps.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I have three red cats, five tattoos and there is a 9/10 chance I will use profanity at least once per session. I am fluent in ASL and invite members of the Deaf or signing community (CODAs, interpreters) to work with me. I also have Type 1 Diabetes so I am very open and willing to work with folks who have a chronic illness, disability, or are parenting a child with special needs. I am always on board to refer to pop culture, film and literature as I think we can learn from everything around us. I am pretty silly and genuinely love what I do so I have a very relaxed approach and value my client's comfort level.
