About My Clients
My clients tend to be people who want to make change in the world, in ways large and small. Yet it feels like things are getting meaner and scarier out there. Sometimes it’s hard to know how to affect change. You have the capacity to witness the nuance and complexity of the human experience. However, showing up for others can mean that you don’t have much time left for yourself. Our therapy is a space for you to receive support, gain insight, understand your defenses, and reprocess trauma.
My Background and Approach
Therapy can be a space to examine your life with clarity and intention, and to reaffirm your most essential values. We all have a tendency to fixate on the negative aspects of our experiences. We'll collaborate to shift your focus, highlight the positive experiences, and gradually heal the deeper hurts. Together we can understand how your present experiences are influenced by the past, improve coping skills, and rebuild the emotional strength you need to continue. I’ve worked in the mental health field for over 20 years, working primarily in non-profit community mental health settings as a therapist, program developer, and clinical director. I have overseen programs that provided treatment for survivors of complex trauma, domestic and sexual violence, and institutional oppression. I am an EMDR certified therapist and focus on trauma healing. Other approaches I use include Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Ego States Work/parts work, and Psychodynamic Psychotherapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Your therapist should be able to tune in to your feelings, sense of humor, and comfort level with certain topics. I encourage people to shop around to find the best fit. I identify as white, cisgender, and queer, and I work from an understanding of how privilege and power show up in my personal life, as well as in my therapy practice. My approach affirms my clients’ racial identities, sexual orientation, gender identities, and body size. I maintain awareness of how oppression can impact our internal and external experiences.
