About My Clients

Maybe you are dealing with the effects of painful or traumatic experiences in the past, or a loss, or have anxiety you can't shake off. You might feel out-of-place and lonely. You want to feel accepted and understood, to find relief from what feels overwhelming, to trust yourself more. My style is about being really there with you when you are going through some of the hardest parts of life.

My Background and Approach

I have about a decade of experience helping people dealing with loss and grief, going through major life transitions, learning to live in a new culture, and suffering from the effects of trauma. Much of my work has been with refugees and immigrants. I did my social work degree in Chicago and worked in non-profits there before moving back to the South. A lot of my training has been about finding ways to cope with trauma and manage anxiety. I can suggest skills or new ideas we can try together to help you to deal with these difficult emotions. My goal is that you feel truly listened to and understood, and that you can take away some new insights, information, or skills that help you. I won’t push you to share more than you feel ready to. I really believe that you have the "answers" for what will work best for you and I focus on helping you to find them, not on advice-giving.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

In addition to what's already mentioned here, I am interested in neurodiversity, particularly the autism spectrum, and have done work to educate myself although I wouldn't consider this a clinical specialty. I've also read and thought a lot about spiritual and religious trauma, as well as the constellation of burnout, compassion fatigue, and help for those in helping professions. Don't get me started on my favorite topic of moral injury! Finally I have experience working with people who identify as part of the LGBTQ community including helping people to access trans-affirming care.
