About My Clients
I work with teens, young adults and adults who have experienced marginalization and racism, individuals identifying as BIPOC and LGBTQIA+, those experiencing trauma, life transitions, and stressors, depression, anxiety, identity exploration, self-esteem, perinatal mental health and women’s issues.
My Background and Approach
As a clinician, I utilize a humanistic and person-centered approach so we can co-create a safe space and meet where you're at in a space without judgment. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness techniques, and am trained in a variety of trauma-informed evidence-based practices (CPT, EMDR, TF-CBT, CPP). I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I earned a bachelor’s degree in Social Work at Meredith College in 2016 and a master’s degree in Social Work at NC State University in 2017. I have over 5 years of experience working in community-based mental health in in-home services and in outpatient therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Growing up, I was often in settings where I was the only one or one of a handful of Black children which often left me feeling unseen, questioning where I fit in, and led to exploring how I identified. I grew tired of being asked “What are you mixed with,” being told that I wasn’t “black enough,” that I “talked White,” and “spoke well for a Black person.” Coming from a diverse family background, I learned about racial disparities and injustices experienced by my family and how this impacted the family system and intergenerational cycles of abuse. As an adolescent, I learned about overcoming adversity through my relationship with my mother as I witnessed my mother survive a life-threatening domestic violence incident and persevere to raise me as a single mother. My experiences inspired me to become a therapist so I could champion the importance of mental health, especially for those from diverse populations and backgrounds.
