About My Clients
Maybe you’ve identified the source of your anxiety. It could be stress related to work, family or social life. Painful or traumatic experiences in your past, a change in your life or identity, or fears about the future could also cause anxiety. Or perhaps you have a vague feeling that something isn’t right or that something terrible is going to happen, and you don’t know why. I believe that, together, we can figure out the root causes of your distress and identify a path forward.
My Background and Approach
My approach is client-centered meaning that I will tailor an approach to meet your unique needs and support you in reaching your goals. I have a strengths-based perspective which guides me in helping you to build on your existing abilities to become more skillful in managing life’s challenges effectively.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that mental health problems often start out as ways of coping. For example, if something bad happens, you might begin to worry about what else could go wrong. This could lead you to over-prepare and try to control outcomes. You might avoid situations in which you don’t feel in control. Such responses make sense, but over time you might lose your ability to relax and enjoy life. Focusing on your fears can erode your sense of confidence. By avoiding uncomfortable situations you may miss out on meaningful opportunities and relationships. I can help you develop more effective skills and response patterns. I welcome clients of every ethnicity, cultural background, gender and sexual identity. I practice cultural humility. I work with many LGBTQ+ folks. I have extensive experience working with immigrants and first-generation Americans, particularly those from Spanish-speaking countries. I provide therapy in English and Spanish.
