About My Clients
I work with clients who have lived their lives at the margins and have been discounted by the mainstream. I most enjoy working with members of the 2SLGBTQIAA+ community, people practicing multiple relationships (ethical non-monogamy), kinksters, and those exploring their gender identity.
My Background and Approach
I primarily work from the theory of Emotion Focused Therapy. I am a big believer in the science of Attachment Theory and how our ability to feel safe with our loved ones allows for greater self-exploration and life satisfaction. I believe that clients are inherently equipped to develop safe attachment relationships, but that past relationship hurts may be getting in the way of honest engagement with ourselves and others. My work centers around identifying and repairing those relational injuries, clearing the way for emotions to guide your life without overwhelming you. I am also sensitive to the power dynamics between therapist and client, and attend to how these dynamics impact our work together. I often include identity work as part of my assessment. If you chose to work with me, you can expect a therapist who is warm, empathetic, humorous, and my authentic self with every client.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I identify as a White, cis-gendered, queer, millennial woman. I am also invisibly disabled, middle-class, and non-religious. The identities I hold shape how I see the world and inevitably, our work together. As part of our therapeutic work, we'll discuss our shared and differing identities and how those perspectives can help or hinder our work together. While I will broach the topic, I always allow the client to lead how much identity work is part of the therapeutic space. I provide care that is anti-racist, body-positive, and trans-identity affirming.
