About My Clients
I am passionate about working with teens and adults with problematic substance use and addiction, anxiety, severe mental illness, and folks with other mental health challenges. My other clinical areas of focus include grief & loss, trauma, life transitions, work/career identity, relational issues, chronic pain & illnesses, depression, anger, and general stress.
My Background and Approach
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate (#P016470), a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (#27452) in North Durham. I received my Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Carolina at Asheville and my Master of Social Work degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach to humans, so work together should reflect the complexities and uniqueness of who we are. Using a multifaceted and pragmatic approach to therapy, I help guide clients back to their strengths by making both internal and external shifts while building skills and knowledge along the way. I incorporate MI, CBT, DBT, and ACT to help guide therapy while understanding and appreciating the many ways in which healing can occur.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that treatment starts with connection. I put emphasis on developing a relationship because once we feel non judged and safe about who we are as a partnership our work together takes on meaning and becomes more effective. I take an integrated and holistic approach to treatment by incorporating mind, body, and spirit into treatment and meeting you where you are. I also focus on our environment, as where we live, work, learn and play can have major influence on how we navigate the world. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and work with folks from all cultural, racial, and religious backgrounds.
