About My Clients

Many of my clients benefit from individual and relationship-centered LGBTQ+ therapy which helps strengthen connections and improve sexual concerns. Clients are able to develop strategies and skills to cope with difficult situations at an intrapersonal and interpersonal level. Regardless of one's sexual orientation, gender identity, race, religion, cultural background, kink or relationship configuration, clients process and navigate difficult components that are impacting their lives.

My Background and Approach

My multicultural background necessitates that diversity is important to me. Thus, it is imperative to create a therapeutic environment where clients can show up authentically and unapologetically. My orientation is psychodynamic and solution focused, and I integrate both in attachment-based psychotherapy. As a psychodynamic clinician, I aim to explore psychological and emotional factors that may be negatively impacting an individual's relational and sexual experience or functioning. The goal is to help clients explore past experiences that may be contributing to sexual difficulties. By identifying underlying issues, clients can develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their sexuality, leading to improved sexual functioning and satisfaction. In addition, with a solution-focused lens, I focus on practical solutions to sexual concerns. I use techniques such as setting specific goals, concrete homework assignments, as well as assisting clients in developing self-awareness.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I am a firm believer that sexuality and mental health are closely interconnected, and individuals frequently seek help for a wide range of sexual and mental health concerns. As a public health professor, I have spent years teaching and conducting research on sexual health, especially through the lens of the needs of LGBTQ+ populations. Oftentimes specialized therapeutic spaces are not sensitive to LGBTQ+ individuals. Thus, in addition to the pedagogy, research and advocacy, it was essential for me to be part of the clinical aspect of mental health, and provide a sensitive and culturally aware platform that provides a non-judgmental outlet for individuals to talk openly and honestly about their sexuality, as well as how it intersects with their identities, mental health, and other areas of their lives.
