About My Clients
You don’t want to deal with these huge feelings on your own. But with domestic violence, sexual assault, and other traumatic experiences, the people in your life often can’t understand what you're going through, they don’t know what to say, or they invalidate your thoughts and feelings. This can cause you to feel isolated, doubt yourself, or question your reality as you navigate feelings of anxiety, depression, shame, and anger.
My Background and Approach
Many therapists focus on cognitive reframing. While that can be helpful at times for some people, trauma lives primarily in the body. We will focus on physical exercises for nervous system regulation, emotion regulation skills, and understanding our emotions as physical sensations. Many trauma survivors have debilitating shame, self-criticism, and perfectionism. I work to teach survivors to talk to themselves and others with compassion. Moreover, we will explore your values and hopes for your life outside of healing, so you can build the life you want. I hope for you to discover your most authentic self and feel safe enough to express it. My priority is for you to feel accepted and safe. Together, we can work on understanding trauma, recognizing your feelings, and practicing how to cope. You can learn new skills to improve your wellbeing and determine the steps to take outside of the session that align with your authentic self and values.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I aim to provide trans, non-binary, and all LBGTQIA+2S clients with a space to be their authentic selves. I hope to provide Fat Acceptance / Health at Every Size clients a space free from diet culture. I support Black Lives Matter and the fight for racial justice in the US. I am continuously learning about the needs of neurodivergent people. I am committed to continuously learning and re-learning about marginalized identities so that you never have to deal with the questioning of a majority-identity clinician. You deserve to be accepted just as you are, no explanations necessary.
