About My Clients
Being queer comes with challenges. Throw trauma on top, and navigating the day to day feels impossible. Especially when you have a job to do, a home to keep cozy & clean, friends to see, bills to pay, social movements to navigate, AND basic needs to cover (you know, those little things like eating & sleeping). Unfortunately, trauma doesn't care about those things. It comes back, back, back again. Trauma's trapped you in a lackluster life...but you deserve a life that lets your true colors shine.
My Background and Approach
If you choose to work with me, you'll get an eclectic therapist with over a decade of experience. You'll get someone who truly understands how hard the struggle can be and someone who will take the time to custom fit treatment to meet your specific needs. How? I'll listen, and then I'll present you thoughts and options across therapeutic styles until we find the right fit for the journey you're on. Over the last decade, I've learned and practiced a wide array of skills across therapy modalities. While I frequently find myself pulling from modalities like CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Mindfulness, Solution-Focused Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Narrative-Based Therapy, and EMDR, I also consider myself a lifelong learner, and expect that list of modalities to expand exponentially over time. Rest assured. No matter what I learn, I'll continue to bring my up-to-date best for your benefit.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Life doesn't come with a manual. We're forced to do our best... but we also don't know what we don't know. That leaves us with some inevitable gaps. As a queer kid, I used to have so many questions about these gaps. I was stuck and hopeless. I didn’t often feel seen; when I did, it felt harmful. As a result, I hid. I didn't get the help that I needed, when I needed it. I tried a lot of things that didn't work. Then, I dedicated my life to figuring out my knowledge gaps, and supporting other people who were looking to do so too. Along the way, I've realized many things, but one of the most important things is this: difficult journeys are better with good company. Within each and every one of us is the capacity to heal and thrive, but when we have gaps in knowing how, too often our journeys come to a grinding halt-- that's where a quality journey partner can make all the difference. Because the truth is that you won't ever get a manual in life, but you absolutely CAN get a therapist.
