About My Clients
You've got big giant feelings you're wrestling with. Or maybe you're too much in your head and it's getting loud in there. Feelings of stress, anxiety, or sadness are affecting your relationships, your work and even your body. This may be due to a recent challenge or something you've been carrying for a long time. The good news is you've also got a lot of gifts and talents and we can collaborate to cultivate those strengths.
My Background and Approach
My approach is shaped by both my clinical experience and training as well as my work as a theatre director and writer (and not to mention my good old life experiences.) My style is collaborative with an eclectic toolbox where I work towards finding the right approaches for you. I'm all about partnership and dialogue. For those keen on interventions much of my practice is based in mindfulness, DBT work, some CBT and narrative approaches. We will work to identify your insecurities, your behaviors, your fears, your strengths and your abilities. We'll work on change and we'll work on acceptance. We will talk. We will breathe. We will laugh.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Over time, we've developed a set of skills, ways to cope. For many of us those skills have saved our lives. But somehow those same skills can often be our greatest barriers. (Hello Criticism!) I believe we can learn new ways of living and develop additional ways to cope. We can learn to let go of that which doesn't serve us and learn to use which skill at which time. The goal of therapy isn't to become eternally happy. The goal is to become flexible in our way of thinking, behaving, responding to challenges and navigating the ups and downs that life has to offer. I also truly believe that we can cultivate love and joy within ourselves through self compassion, grace and forgiveness. Radical self compassion is a thing. None of this easy. But it's possible. As a gay man, managing depression and anxiety through self acceptance and self love is an ongoing process and I'd love to share what I've learned and find to be effective.
