About My Clients
People often struggle with stressful thoughts, intrusive images, and emotions related to painful life experiences. Violence, sexual assault, life-threatening situations, and other significant or unexpected changes can leave you "stuck." You survive every day, but you're not living the life you want. You may be feeling shame or guilt thinking about what you "should have done", that you "should be over it by now", or "it wasn't that big of a deal, why am I like this?"
My Background and Approach
I am trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, a structured and often short-term (< 15 weeks) intervention that helps people get unstuck. I focus on helping people experiencing stress panic related to past trauma, significant life changes, and anxiety or panic about repeating unhelpful patterns. Maybe you have tried "talking about it" before with no changes—or felt worse because no one offered a solution. You want to do more than just "cope" with the trauma, panic, or "new normal." If you are finding yourself stuck in patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that no longer serve you, I want to work with you to get un-stuck.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
A person's context, identity, and culture all intertwine to form our understanding of mental health, mental illness, trauma, and healing. As a social worker and CBT practitioner, I work toward centering your experience, beliefs, and understanding of how the world is and should be to inform what our sessions should entail.
