About My Clients
My clients are curious about themselves and want help in overcoming challenges to building a life that brings them peace, happiness and fulfillment of their needs and dreams. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, difficulty in personal or work relationships, trauma, longtime patterns of not getting what you need in life despite trying really hard, and maybe feeling confused, exhausted, hopeless, or that life has no meaning, I can help you walk a new path of healing.
My Background and Approach
My passion is helping clients find the ability to make choices that bring them what they want and need by being present with what happens in the moment. We do this together by exploring your concerns with curiosity, mutual respect, and safety through authentic dialog, role play, experiments to help you understand how you work, humor, creative play, and getting in touch with your body's wisdom. My theoretical background is gestalt therapy, which rests on mutual present-centered exploration of my client's uniqueness by honoring that they are the expert on themselves. Gestalt combines mindfulness with the joyful practice of getting to know each other in a safe environment, while bringing in aspects of other therapies you might know of such as CBT, ACT, DBT, IFS, Hakomi, somatic approaches and existential work. I also see therapy as sacred work done together, and am eager to assist clients in bringing their spiritual self into their healing path to becoming an integrated, whole being.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I come to therapy from a previous life as a manager and entrepreneur in high tech, where I saw that people's success rested on being seen, understood, and valued. I also studied with a teacher of non-dual self-realization where I came to value the spiritual and transpersonal as part of our wholeness. And, I worked for years in politics to bring about valuing each individual in my community, irrespective of who they were. My own personal struggle with finding meaning and purpose combined these ingredients to choose to be a therapist with the commitment to promote these values with my clients. As a member of the LGBTQ community, I was fortunate to find in my own experiences the desire to help others as well. In my work, I believe that each client is the expert on themselves, having their own ability and inclination to heal that I work to help them discover in themselves. I know that each of us has trauma in our past so safety and consent are important - you can always say no!
