About My Clients
Prospective clients may find themselves in a situation of recognizing it's time for a change but don't have an idea of what that looks like - maybe your relationship with your body or how you see yourself isn't going well; or your relationship with alcohol and/or substances no longer does the trick. Reaching out to me may also be appealing if you've been in therapy before and didn't feel that your therapist really understood you. You may not have the answer but know you need more support.
My Background and Approach
My goal as a therapist is to provide a safe, collaborative, and judgment free zone for folx to be able to show up authentically and be seen and validated. Working from a relational and attachment based framework, it's important for me to meet client's where they're at each time we meet for a session. I practice from a harm-reduction approach when it comes to alcohol or substances, self-harm, and managing chronic illness and mental health. We will figure it out together and see what's working and what's not. I believe in the importance of recognizing our strengths that have brought us here and helped us to survive thus far. You're the expert on you; I'm here to be with you in the process of reminding yourself for the first (or even hundredth) time that you are worthy of dignity, respect, and love. Regardless of what your history may look like, your future here will be met with sincerity and compassion. As humans we have the ability to feel, grow, change, and continue to move forward.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I'm a queer therapist (she/her) in a plus sized body. I identify as a cisgender female and work predominantly with folx who are part of the LGBQ+ and trans and gender expansive community. I manage chronic illness and was late diagnosed with ADHD in my 30s. Though I have a background and training in social work, I have my own life experiences that have shaped my desire to become a therapist and continue this work to help others. Being a human can be a beautiful and overly complex experience. Not one of us is perfect, even if we believe the lies we see on social media and tv. We all make mistakes, what counts is learning from them and how we can do better. I believe at any point in time we have the capacity for change. I don't claim to be an expert in anyone else's life but my own, and I do everything I can to maintain that in the therapy space. You know yourself best. Together we can work to figure out where you might be stuck and how to help you move forward and breathe easier.
