About My Clients
I work with individuals across the lifespan, with extensive experience in treating adolescents and young adults, including college and graduate students. I specialize in Borderline Personality Disorder, particularly in marginalized communities, and related clinical and cultural issues, such as emotion dysregulation, self-harm, suicidality, navigating privileged spaces under systemic oppression, being "an adult child of narcissistic parents", "eldest daughter syndrome," and spirituality issues.
My Background and Approach
I obtained my Master’s in Clinical-Counseling Psychology from Illinois State University and my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Rutgers University’s Graduate School of Applied and Professional Psychology. I have experience in comprehensive DBT, treating serious mental illness, trauma-focused therapy, and psychodynamic therapies. My goal is to support individuals in creating a life that acknowledges both their pain and their potential for growth. I strive to build trust through straightforwardness, kindness, irreverence, and humor, creating a space that is both safe and empowering. Drawing on my extensive DBT training and lived experience, I foster emotional containment and autonomy, while incorporating trauma-informed treatment and psychodynamic (e.g. attachment-based) approaches to tailor each therapeutic experience to the individual client's needs. I also incorporate creative outlets like music into therapy, helping clients express feelings beyond words.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
As a bi-ethnic Pakistani-Indonesian woman raised by undocumented, low-income parents, I have a deep understanding of the complexities of thriving within systemic oppression. I integrate radical self-care and tools for personal success into my work. For some, religion and progressive values appear to be at odds, but as a progressive, practicing Muslim, I believe social justice goes hand in hand with spirituality. I emphasize culturally humble, LGBTQ+ affirming care and, when applicable, help clients navigate how their spiritual values intersect with other identities.
