About My Clients
I work with people like you and me. I work with progressively minded men, women, and gender expansive people trying to live lives in line with their values. My clients are professionals, they are parents, they want to live free of the struggles their parents had. I work with people trying to truly make sense of why they are in relationships and what they want to get out of this one life we have to live. If you are looking for a highly structured worksheet giving therapist....I am not your guy!
My Background and Approach
Everyone who trained and mentored me taught me to look for people and their strengths before I go looking for problems. I consider my approach to be informed by the principles of feminist and existential therapies. To me these two approaches combined mean that each of us is trying to search out answers to life's biggest questions, but our experience of this is dramatically different based on our intersectional social locations. I have trained and worked in various settings including college counseling, community mental health, sexual violence crisis response, and intimate partner violence non-profits. I am an approved clinical supervisor and have extensive continuing education in work with gender issues, sexuality concerns, and relationship issues.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My career started in sexual assault crisis response and doing work advocating for victims/survivors of gender based violence. My work continues to be driven by a deep commitment to equity and justice. I also belied strongly in nuance....that's to say, our world is so full of shades of gray that it can be hard to even know where to land on an issue. Human rights are non-negotiable for me AND there is no such thing as ethical consumption. So what are we to do? I have a special interest in helping people navigate their relationships to their bodies. This means gender, this means sex, this means food, this means movement. I believe we have wide spread cultural problems with these areas.
