About My Clients
My ideal client is one who struggles with social anxiety or severe shyness and poor self-esteem since I have lived experience in this area and know first hand how it negatively impacts one's life. I also work with many individuals in the LGBTQ+ population particularly gay and trans men and adolescents. I also have experience working with clients who have experienced grief and loss and help them to find hope and meaning again.
My Background and Approach
I am a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). I am licensed in both Florida and New York and can only see clients who reside in those states. I am currently only seeing clients via telehealth virtual platform (Headway and Grow Therapy). My style is warm, affirming, open-minded, patient. I do ask my clients to take an active role in their treatment and understand most of the work is done outside the therapy session. I have an integrated approach to therapy but primarily have a person-centered or humanistic treatment orientation. As Carl Rogers, one of the founders of humanistic theory, said, “We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.” I work to help reduce feelings of toxic shame and improve resilience and self-compassion. I also have utilized CBT which is more structured approach for clients who prefer this as well as concepts of acceptance and commitment therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am a biracial cisgender gay man who was raised in low income public housing among people of color predominantly black and Latinx community. I am passionate about helping people who are socially anxious, lonely, isolated, have low self-worth and want better for themselves. I am also passionate about helping those exposed to childhood trauma especially adult children of alcoholics. In addition, working with the LGBTQ+ population has been a great joy. As a marginalized community that faces threats daily, I consider it an honor to support mental health initiatives in the community to help foster resilience and empowerment.
