About My Clients
As a neurodivergent and queer human, I find my work to be special and unique, and I seek to provide informed services to fellow neurospicy humans :) Given the stress of growing up in a neuronormative and cis/het society, I choose to specialize in LGBTQ+ trauma and neurodivergence. Are you experiencing shame or dysfunction? Feeling foreign? Trapped in a space of confusion? Navigating your gender or sexuality? Feeling disempowered? Just want someone that *gets it*? If so, I'm your person :)
My Background and Approach
I have approximately 10 years of involvement with the counseling profession. My love of variety and acquiring knowledge have resulted in vast experiences amongst various settings, including acute/inpatient, university-based, outpatient addiction, and most recently as a children's trauma therapist. Although I am a specialist in LGBTQ+ Trauma, I have also been extensively trained in ADHD disorders, Autism support, mood disorders, and emotion regulation. Domestically, I am licensed to practice in the states of Mississippi and Colorado. I would describe myself as a very accepting and warm therapist, operating from a drive of empathy, multicultural competency, and compassion. I also view myself as alternative and non-traditional in most of my approaches. I tend to sway more toward a psychodynamic and emotionally-focused approach to therapy, but also incorporate cognitive-behavioral, reality, existential, feminist, relational, culture-centered, and narrative styles when appropriate.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that all humans have the ability and knowledge within themselves to navigate their struggles, but sometimes need an extra objective brain/voice/set of ears to develop different perspectives and insight. Growing up in Southern Mississippi in a ministry family, I quickly learned that my neurodivergence and queerness were not always a fit for the world I lived in. Through my own therapy/healing/exploration, I have developed the understanding that happiness may look different for me than it does for others. Neuronormative society contributes to so many of us feeling othered/broken/strange. Now, I try to help others find *their* happy space and embrace their "strangeness." I think therapy is an art, and I love to create. I'm a horror and true crime fanatic, big on queer and pop culture, obsessed with the art of drag, and love reading Tarot. I also am very active in the queer community, and believe political and community involvement are crucial to change we need.
