About My Clients
I provide individual counseling for adults. Clients that typically seek me out are: anxious over-achievers and people-pleasers (especially women and people raised as female), depressed or emotionally withdrawn folks (especially men), those in the neurodivergent community, and people who were raised by emotionally immature or unstable adults. My primary areas of focus are anxiety, depression, boundaries, emotional healing, and familial and attachment trauma.
My Background and Approach
I’m passionate about helping people transform their relationship with their feelings, overcome trauma and shame, and embrace their true selves: the weird, the brilliant, the taboo, and everything in between. I’m trained in a modality called Emotion-Focused Therapy (also known as EFT). EFT is a humanistic, evidence-based approach that draws from attachment theory to help clients change maladaptive responses to the human emotional experience. It is also highly effective for treating childhood trauma, improving self-esteem, and softening the inner critic.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My work is neurodivergent-affirming, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and LGBTQ allied. I believe the best way to create lasting change is to stop trying to change. Yes, you read that right! It’s incredible how naturally change can happen when you stop fighting against yourself. I want to help you get to know YOU; your feelings, your needs, your values… And to do this fully, you must also meet the parts of yourself that feel shameful, embarrassing, toxic, or unlovable. I know what you’re thinking; “That sounds terrible Joslyn. Why would I want to do that?” Because these parts are where your oldest wounds live. Your most painful memories. The times you felt rejected, alone or abandoned. These parts are usually the roots of your suffering. But by giving these pieces of you attention, compassion, and acceptance, they can become the first steppingstones to the life you want to live.
