About My Clients
There are many external circumstances we face that can create distress in our day to day lives: a global pandemic, climate change, systems of oppression, just to name a few. These large-scale challenges can also exacerbate what you may have already been struggling with: anxiety, low mood, lack of motivation, interpersonal conflicts, trauma, a challenging relationship with food and your body, or a chaotic relationship with substances.
My Background and Approach
You are the expert on YOU, and I am here to support you in making the changes you want to make. I will work with you to understand your goals and support you in reaching them. I may also support you in clarifying your values and understanding what's most important to you, and helping you to align your actions and goals with those values. I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist in the state of North Carolina. I received my Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Appalachian State University in 2019, where I also completed a certificate in Addictions Counseling. Since graduating, I have been in the field full time and have completed multiple additional trainings, including Phases I and II of Brainspotting, and trainings in anti-racism and gender-affirming practices in therapy.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Unfortunately, the world of mental health and addiction treatment has often been directly harmful to LGBTQIA+ people, Black people, and generally people who do not fit the cisgender hetero white guy mold. I believe it is my duty to advocate for change in our field and to serve my clients in a way that is anti-racist, affirming and welcoming of all. I believe that as a counselor, I am responsible for creating a welcoming and affirming space for people of all genders, races and religious backgrounds. It is of utmost importance to me to create a sense of trust and affirmation in the therapeutic relationship. I also believe that I am personally and professionally responsible for living in a way that is in line with my values of equity, compassion and community.
