About My Clients
Understanding and treating religious trauma requires knowledge in a wide range of issues, including interpersonal relationships, family dynamics, sexuality, and developmental trauma. This wide range of experience has helped me work not only with religious trauma survivors, but with a wide range of other clients. My clients often come to work with me at a sticking point in their life- whether in a relationship, in processing their past, or in navigating a new part of their life.
My Background and Approach
After growing up and being educated in a conservative religious environment, I realized the heavy impact that restrictive religious environments can have. I am passionate about assisting those who are processing their experiences in religious environments, which led me to conduct my thesis on religious trauma. As your therapist, I am committed to creating an authentic and collaborative space. I specialize in Acceptance Commitment Therapy, using a trauma-informed approach. In other words, I focus on meeting you where you are, providing practical tools to assist you in reaching your goals, and facilitating opportunities to reflect on your past experiences and desired outcomes. I want therapy to be a space that works for you- I consider myself a collaborator in therapy; where you are an expert in your own experiences and needs. I consider it an honor to act as a therapist and would love to have the opportunity to work together!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Many clients seeking care for religious trauma are wary of anyone who may manipulate the dynamics of therapy to preach or proselytize. It is of utmost importance to me that I meet each client exactly where they are, and help them navigate their own journey- not anyone else's. This includes radically affirming your sexuality, spirituality, or any other part of your identity. I believe that therapy is a powerful tool. I also acknowledge the existence of long-standing systems of oppression, and my responsibility as a mental health provider to work against those systems as much as I am able. I am committed to working on various fronts to remove systemic barriers, and also to lift up the voices of leaders in these movements as I continue learning and growing. As a therapist, I am especially focused on improving access to mental health care and de-mystifying the process of seeking help and treatment for mental illness.
