About My Clients
ANXIETY ANXIETY YOU GIVE ME NO MERCY (sorry for the all caps). My clients suffer from intrusive thoughts, overthinking, and an overwhelming sense of dread. Like if I make the wrong call right now, the rest of my life is going to go to shit. They often find themselves saying 'what if' and 'ugh, did I really just say that?' The overactive dialogue they have in their minds can contribute to isolation, and avoidance. Let's change that, let's get you feeling less anxious, and more confident.
My Background and Approach
I got started in the helping profession in homeless shelters and underpasses in Chicago. I worked on the South and West sides of the city. Doing one on one counseling is vastly different than that experience; but I approach therapy with that perspective in mind. I don't know what's going on in someone's life unless they tell me, and it might take weeks or months to feel comfortable enough to tell me anything. I work with people from all different backgrounds, races, ethnicities, and I am driven by helping each and every one of them learn coping skills. My company, Sixty-Forty Counseling PLLC is named that because 40% of life is going to be hardship and suffering. No one has a life that's glitter and butterflies. But 60% of life is great (even as a cynic I believe this). It's why we don't mind the 40% that much. I work with adolescents (16+) and adults. I want to create a space where you feel comfortable opening up, learning coping skills, and talking things out.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My personal belief is that anyone can change. We are not bound to continue to experience anxiety throughout the rest of our lives. We can manage it. The 'C' word in my office is Control. We cannot control our anxiety, that sounds like an unending battle that can consume all of our mental energy. We manage out anxiety through using coping skills and rolling with it. I believe that everyone can change, and I want to help you believe that too.
