About My Clients
Many of us have faced abuse, neglect, and harm from loved ones, strangers, & oppressive systems. These experiences can overwhelm us or make us feel numb. We develop coping behaviors like people-pleasing, dissociation, and self-criticism. Initially protective, these behaviors can hinder our self-connection and relationships. What all of my clients have in common is their curiosity. They show up to therapy curious about how their past affects their present, new skills, & what they want from life.
My Background and Approach
As a queer, transgender, neurodivergent survivor of abuse and trauma, I deeply believe in the therapeutic value of lived experience. My own experiences in living and healing impact how I conceptualize and relate to clients and their concerns. I am not currently trained or certified in any treatment types, but I draw from/am influenced by a few theories and modalities. Most often, for improving emotional awareness, regulation, and communication, I draw from Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and somatic approaches. With the goals of helping clients better understand their emotions, I draw from emotionally-focused therapeutic techniques. For processing traumas, understanding where current behaviors came from, and building a stronger sense of Self, I am informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS)/parts work. I often encourage clients to engage with journaling, creative practices, and nature outside of session as well.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My following values deeply impact the therapeutic work I do: liberation, pleasure, authenticity, compassion and anti-shame, harm reduction, body autonomy, curiosity, creativity, ecology, humor, interdependence, and love. This is a non-exhaustive list and I encourage and welcome any questions or conversations about these values and how they show up in my work.
