About My Clients
Most of my clients are young people with chronic pain or medical problems such as migraine, POTS, Diabetes, or brain injury. Many of them have suffered through years of trying to balance chronic illness and daily life. Some of my clients also have anxiety or depression in addition to their health concerns. All of them are wonderful humans who deserve to life the best life possible!
My Background and Approach
I am a clinical Psychologist licensed in the state of Maryland. I have over 15 years of experience working in major hospitals with young people who have chronic medical conditions. My approach is collaborative - your goals are my goals. I use a practical, strengths-based approach to treatment so that my clients start to see results quickly, even when their goals are longer term in nature. My primary methods for therapy are Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Both of these methods are very skills based and approachable, which means they work for almost everyone - even if you don't like talking about feelings! Many of my clients are wary about starting therapy for a medical condition. Sometimes it's hard to understand how a Psychologist can help with physical problems. I use research based methods to help improve quality of life for those with medical conditions. I believe that every aspect of our health is equally important!
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
My practice is based in three core values: authenticity, respect, and commitment. In my experience, the most successful therapy relationships are authentic on the part of both the therapist and the client. I bring my true self to every therapy session and I encourage my clients to do the same. I believe that every person should be fully respected for who they are. I champion clients of all ethnicity, ability, sexuality, gender identity, and body type. I am committed to helping my clients achieve their goals. As a therapist, I believe that it is my responsibility to help you feel better and I will problem solve with you until we find an effective way to get there. With me, you won't spend endless months having the same conversations over and over. We will work together to solve problems so that you can feel better quickly. When I'm not working, you'll find me with my family, out in nature, or hitting the ice for a hockey game.
