About My Clients

I specialize in helping clients with trauma, PTSD, personality disorders, suicidal ideation, and relationship issues. I have extensive experience working with adolescents, young adults, and adults who struggle maintaining their own safety or have recurring challenges in their relationships with others at school, work, or home. I enjoy working with adults, teens, couples, groups, and providing clinical supervision services to other mental health professionals. I'm LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC affirming.

My Background and Approach

I am a certified Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) therapist with a psychodynamic orientation. In short, this means that I am focused on helping you develop skills to better control your reactions to overwhelming situations. Once you are able to react more effectively, we can shift to helping you to develop an improved understanding of why you felt out of control in the first place. My style is warm, but appropriately challenging. I will be active in our sessions to help support you in meeting your goals, which also includes having a direct conversation when you might be getting in your own way. I regularly check-in about how you think our work is going and welcome feedback. I cannot know something might not feel right unless you tell me. I know this can be hard, so developing a safe and affirming space to have difficult conversations is my top-priority.

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that everyone is the expert on themselves, even when they are struggling to make the most effective choices for themselves. The therapist isn't the expert in the room, but a collaborator to support someone on their journey towards improved functioning. I won't tell someone what to do or how to do it; this approach isn't effective. But I will listen to what's working and what's not, and help you shift your mindset. Change does not happen in a straight line. There will be ebbs and flows of progress and that is not just ok, but expected. It is crucial to share honestly with your therapist, otherwise therapy cannot be helpful. While skills are important, it is the relationship that helps support change.
