Madeline Salas (she/her)

I am interning under a Body Trust certified provider, Jacqueline Abeling, so that I can foster my skills for treating people struggling with body image, disordered eating, and food issues. Each person's battle with body image is uniquely personal and often stems from untouched trauma that counseling seeks to make sense of. Using a narrative approach to therapy, I hope to help you unravel the stories that have been told to you by diet culture, family, media, all of it, and create a new story.

Oppression, discrimination, and stereotyping impact everyone every day and using a feminist theory approach in my treatment style seeks to center the client and seek self revelation. I first learned about feminist theory in my undergraduate literature studies and was drawn to how to its main intention is to strengthen not only women, but marginalized groups of people using assertiveness, communication and self esteem building.

From the moment we are born, we begin to develop an attachment to our caregivers. However, we may not have consistent attachment as babies, not be given the love and attention we needed or fearful caregivers. That fear or neglect seeps into how we attach and build relationships with others and affects the success of those relationships. Getting to the root of our attachment is an attainable counseling goal that can be reached with consistent and collaborative therapy.

I am passionate about helping others heal their relationship to themselves and connecting to their inner child through a narrative therapy approach. The stories we tell ourselves are impactful and being able to rewrite them through a lens of compassion and acceptance is a main goal of mine as a counselor.
