About My Clients
I commonly work with concerns with sexual functioning, problems with desire, issues related to sexual abuse or assault, out-of-control sexual behaviors, sexual identity, gender identity, relational identity (i.e. monogamous, ethically non-monogamous), kink/BDSM, and relationship difficulties. I also work with clients who need a therapist who understands that sometimes the heart of the problem is not about your non-monogamy, BDSM lifestyle, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
My Background and Approach
I'm a queer/bisexual, cisgender woman who works with individuals, couples, and relationship clients ages 18 and above. I adjust my approach to draw on skill sets that fit best with a particular client's needs. This may include psychodynamic, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness-based, polyvagal theory, and dialectical behavior therapy, among others. I am currently passionate about learning Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), which focuses on helping people build secure attachments in their relationships, and Internal Family Systems theory, which can help to understand and resolve conflicts within ourselves.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
We live in a society that in many ways encourages us or even insists (such as with systemic oppression) that we disconnect from our bodies, our pleasure, and our power. Disconnection from our bodies can lead us to shut down parts of ourselves, which in turn limits our capacity for depth and authenticity. All of this disconnection leaves us ill-equipped to navigate our relationships with our sexual selves and others. Instead, I would love for all of us to experience the opportunity to: -allow ourselves access to pleasure without shame and without sacrificing our authentic values -deepen our capacity to connect despite the fears associated with vulnerability -pursue connection driven by values that we have consciously opted into ourselves rather than ill-fitting values that were foisted upon us. I value educating myself in anti-racist practices, queer and trans liberation, follow health-at-every size principles, and honor neurodiversity.
