About My Clients
I spent multiple years gaining experience in helping with multiple challenges such as neurodivergence, struggles in relationships, anxiety, and depression. I have come to particularly enjoy working with women and other individuals with identities of marginalized groups. I enjoy supporting individuals reflect on their own experiences, identify their own voices and how those voices would prefer to be used. Together we will explore how you might prefer to move in the world around you and with whom.
My Background and Approach
My pronouns are she/her/hers and I grew up in Oregon where I was raised with a strong connection to my Cuban culture. I grew up with a love of helping others and curiosity regarding the world around me. These interests lead me to San Diego where I obtained my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and minor in Spanish before obtaining my Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy with Latinos/as. Between undergraduate and graduate school I worked for multiple years as an ABA therapist, then it was at my graduate program that I was introduced to Narrative Therapy. While I continue to identify as a narrative therapist, over the years I have been trained to use other theoretical interventions such as CBT, DBT, Harm Reduction, and Motivational Interviewing to help people understand their challenges as well as what might be helpful. I work collaboratively with you to identify and acknowledge cultural ideas that may be impacting you and to identify preferred ways of living.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I am not an expert and do not believe one can claim to be an expert regarding another’s experience. I have knowledge, skills, and experience that will I use to support you throughout our work together. I will collaborate on how to handle whatever challenges bring you to seek support. Through my personal and educational experience I have become more aware of cultures and how they can impact us. I have come to value identifying cultural ideas we may agree, or disagree with, and identifying values which might support preferred ways to live when held close. My experience has supported the idea that we can increase awareness of our problems and find different ways to manage them. Therapy is a journey and not always an easy one. In our work we'll adjust the sails while exploring where it is you might want to go and with whom .
