About My Clients
I have been practicing therapy for nine years. In many ways I do not have a “typical” client: I have worked in various settings with adults of different backgrounds and identities: men, women, young, old, students, professionals, Veterans, people of color, and people who identify as transgender and LGBT+. I am proud to be an affirming provider for all and often identity and culture play a significant role in therapy.
My Background and Approach
I believe in being totally transparent about my therapeutic approach so you can make an informed choice that will support you in recovery and healing. We would probably be a good fit if you are curious about yourself and want to learn more about how your mind and emotions work, particularly if your thoughts and feelings are interfering with your quality of life, or you are struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship issues or have a history of trauma. My therapeutic approach is compassionate, honest, and direct. I provide the feedback you need to hear to make progress in different problem areas of your life. When we meet, I listen very carefully, provide you with my undivided attention, ask thought-provoking questions, and help you build insight into why you are struggling and how to start feeling better. I practice a blend of psychodynamic and cognitive/behavioral psychotherapy, which emphasizes building insight and learning coping skills.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
I believe that our early experiences- with our parents, friends, and society- have a profound impact on our personalities and our ability to enjoy life and relationships to the fullest. Through therapy, we can discuss how past events shaped your current difficulties and work together to create new patterns and ways to cope with challenges. We will work to understand how underlying emotions impact your thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. I also believe that our therapeutic relationship can be an excellent way to better understand you and your struggles. If you are wondering whether my approach is right for you, let’s chat. I offer a free 15-minute consultation where we can get to know each other a bit and discuss how therapy might help.
