About My Clients
I work with adult children of immigrants who are suffering from the impact of unresolved family conflict. Many have experienced chronic resentment, guilt, and shame. Despite wanting to move on with their life, painful memories cast a dark shadow on their thoughts and decisions. This can make it very difficult to form close, trusting relationships.
My Background and Approach
As a psychodynamic and culturally aware therapist with 10+ years of experience, I aim to truly listen to you unlike any other person in your life. Whether you are a couple or an individual, I can help you make sense of the chaos and address its underlying causes. Therapy can give you breathing room, a chance to let your guard down and acknowledge the hurts you have been living with. This is hard work, an investment rather than a quick fix. Therapy is an experience that is uniquely different for each individual. In our first few sessions I carefully listen to you and learn about what exactly you hope to gain from our work together.
My Personal Beliefs and Interests
Before I became a therapist, I worked in social justice organizations and have a degree in sociology. My work integrates an understanding of how culture and society shapes our lived experiences and becomes internalized. This includes perceptions of race, class, gender, sexuality, disability, immigration status, body image, etc. I believe that your childhood, family history and painful past experiences/traumas are more important to understanding who you are as a person in the world than your medical diagnosis or observable symptoms. Following Freud's original idea of a "talking cure", therapy heals through the act of listening, making space to speak the unspeakable.
